Magick is everywhere
When Someone Else Talks About Ordinary Magick (And My Heart Nearly Explodes)
You know how I'm always talking about ordinary magick? If you've been around for even just a minute, you might be getting tired of hearing about it. (Although honestly, how could you get tired of it? It's so magical, so full of enchantment! 🤩)
But here's what happened that got me absolutely buzzing with excitement.
The Moment I Realized I'm Not Alone
He was describing how, as he goes about his normal day-to-day life, the ideas that come up for him, the longings, the opportunities - all of it feels like it's directly put there by Life (with a capital L). He might have said God or used different language, but essentially, he was describing exactly what I call ordinary magick.
Here's someone else - someone whose work I deeply respect - talking about this thing I've been thinking about, writing about, and engaging with for what feels like forever. And I rarely hear other people articulating it quite this way.
What makes Timothy's perspective even more compelling is that he's so real and grounded. He's naturally optimistic without being that fake, smarmy kind of toxic positivity that makes your skin crawl. He's authentic in his hopefulness, and that makes his experience of life's constant interaction all the more credible.
This Isn't Just Me Making Stuff Up
This is the thing that has me so excited: This isn't just me.
This isn't me finding coincidences and blowing them up into something they're not. This is real. This is actually happening for all of us on a regular basis. We just don't always pay attention in the ways we need to in order to recognize it.
Isn't that thrilling? This enchantment, this wonder, this ordinary magick - it's available to you in your life right now.
You Don't Have to Go Anywhere
You don't have to fly across the world and take a month off from your life to find it. You can if that's what calls to you, but you don't have to.
You don't have to wait until you've won a million dollars. You don't need a penny.
You don't have to wait until you've found the love of your life. You don't need another human being.
You don't have to do anything except... well, actually, you do have to do one thing.
The Only Thing You Have to Do
You have to pay attention.
You have to participate. You have to be open and willing to see, hear, or perceive in whatever way works for you that this connection with Life - with something more, something bigger - is real and is interacting with you personally.
You have to be willing to engage.
My Way Isn't the Only Way
For me, conscious experimentation works beautifully. I have a whole structure around it - like the scaffolding they put up outside buildings during construction.
These experiments create a supporting framework that helps me actively engage with Life's communication. If you're curious about this approach and want that kind of support, you can sign up for my Luminous Notes to be sure you hear about the next live community experiment I run. But you absolutely don't have to do it this way.
You can engage with ordinary magick however feels authentic to you.
Priming the Pump
What I've noticed over my six years of doing this work is that sometimes I need to "prime the pump." If I've gotten out of the habit of actively engaging, when I start a new experiment, I need about a week of preparation - setting phone reminders, calendar appointments, whatever it takes to get myself back into that place of actively participating and perceiving. Once I’ve done that, I can begin my 30-day experiment.
Your timeline might be completely different, and that's totally fine. Just be patient with yourself and keep paying attention.
The Feeling Is Everything
When these synchronicities start happening, when you begin to feel that deeper connection and meaning within the circle of life... I don't know if I have adequate words to describe how fulfilling it feels. How enlivening. How grateful it makes me to be alive in this here and now.
This work has been powerful enough to pull me back from really horrible Depression. It's that transformative.
We're Not Alone in This
Seeing Timothy's video gave me such hope because it means this energy is out there elsewhere. We might not be using the exact same words or coming from identical perspectives - we're different people, after all - but we're talking about the same essential truth.
And that means there are others out there recognizing this constant interaction between themselves and Life. That gives me hope for all of us.
I'd love to know what you think about this, especially if you watch Timothy's video. How does this topic land for you? Are you getting tired of hearing about ordinary magick, or is it something you look forward to exploring?
Not that it matters either way - I'm going to keep talking about it because I can't not. But I'm genuinely curious about your experience. 😉
Thanks for being here, as always. More soon.
